2005- 2007: Partner in the program: Euromed Heritage “Defence Systems on the Mediterranean Coasts” (DSMC), project financed by European Union and it is part of an effort of scientific research on the preservation of the cultural heritage in the countries of the Mediterranean Basin.

2005 - 2007 Principal investigator of the project: Development of a model  for decision support of spatial urban planning using GIS, multi criteria evaluation and cellular automata. This project is supported by the University of the Aegean Research Committee.

2005 - 2010 Principal investigator of the project: Integrated planning for safe use of urban liquid and sediment wastes for agriculture with the aim of remote sensing and Gis. This project is supported by the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology and by the municipality of Messologi Greece with an initial budget of about 60000 Euros.

1998 – today: Cooperation with NASA (USA) on the research program “Quality assessment of the marine environment using SeaWiFs satellite images”.

1998 – today:  Cooperation with ΕSA (European Space Agency) on the research program “Water Quality Assessment and Air Pollution Monitoring Over Sea Areas Using MERIS Data from the satellite ENVISAT”.

1998 – 2005: Participation in a consortium of European research institutes, which had a five year contract expanded to seven years with EUMETSAT (European Meteorological Satellites) for the development of operational applications of satellite data for the next generation satellites (SNG), within the Land SAF programme (Land Satellite Application Facilities).

1998 – 2001: Project Leader for the project “Extended University program of Environmental Cartography” financed by the Ministry of Education by 1.5 million Euro.

1997 - Project Leader for the project «Cadastral surveys to Fill out declarations according to the integrated system of checking and management » Financed by  the Department of Agriculture in the Prefecture of Lesvos and the Prefecture of Chios Greece.

1996 - 1997 Project Leader for the project «Seasonal Spectral Characteristics of Land Cover for the Mediterranean Countries» Financed by the University of the Aegean Research Committee by 10-KECU.

1996 - Project Leader for the project «Study for GIS development in the Prefecture of Chios Greece» Financed by  the Prefecture of Chios Greece.

1995 - 2000 Scientific leader of the University of the Aegean research team on the project : «Optimization of the Procedures on the Design and the Study of Harbor Works», This project was administered by the University of Thrace Greece and the total budget is 513-KECU. The part of the project which was done at the University of the Aegean involved precise 3-D measurements of the sea waves by close range photogrammetry.

1995 – today: Educational and Research cooperation with USA, School for International Training, University of Southern Maine.

1994 - 1996: Project Leader for the project «Sea Environment Quality Assessment for  the Greek Islands Located in the Less Favored Areas of the Northern Aegean Using Satellite Images». Total budget 18KECU, financed by the Ministry of the Aegean.

1993 - 1996: Scientific leader of the Greek research team on the project: «Aerosol Climate Parameters over the Mediterranean Area from Joint Ground and Satellite Data» This project was administered by the Italian partners, the Greek budget was 51-KECU. Contract: EU:ENVIRONMENT, Contract: DG-XII EV5V - CT93 - 0260.

1994 - 1997: Project Leader for the project: «Correlation of Digital SPOT/P Satellite Stereo Images to Measure Elevations  for Maps 1:50000». Financed by the Greek Secretariant of Research and Technology by 30-KECU under the project «PENED» Contract: 91 ED 609.

1994 - 1995 Project Leader for the project «Precise Mapping of the Surface of the Sea Environment by Satellite Images and Ground Photographs» Financed by the University of the Aegean Research Committee by 10-KECU.
1993 Project Leader for the project «Construction of Maps Regulation: 2078/92», use of GIS technology to produce thematic maps for the Greek Ministry of Agriculture in the island of Lesvos.

1992 - 1994 Project leader of the Greek research group of the project: "Monitoring for Protection of the Marine Environment Using Satellite Images of Landsat TM and AVHRR". This project was jointly supported by the Greek General Secretariat of Research and Technology and the British Council with a budget of about 24000 ECU.

1989 - 1992 Principal investigator of the project: Digital image Processing of Landsat TM and SPOT for 1:50000 Map Revision. This project was supported by the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology and by the Greek Army Geographical service with an initial budget of about 70000 ECU.

1991 - 1993 Land cover classification of olive trees in the Greek islands using Landsat-TM images. This project is performed in cooperation with the Sector of Ecosystem Management of the Department of Environmental Studies and it is sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture.
