STUDENTS

At present there are approximately 3,500 students attending the University of the Aegean in Mytilene, the capital city of Lesvos. This island city and the island itself provide students with an opportunity to experience life in a unique setting enhanced by a fascinating history, old traditions, and impressive natural beauty. They can visit museums such as the archaeological museum, the Teriade museum of modern art and the world-famous museum of the Petrified Forest in Sigri. They can visit the many beautiful beaches, villages, and small towns like Molyvos and Eressos that attract the bulk of the island’s tourists, and enjoy the experience of bathing in a number of traditional hydrothermal bathhouses. Students in Mytilene can also entertain themselves at the lively bars and cafes in the harbour, or at its traditional taverns that offer all kinds of ouzo, as Lesvos is considered the home of ouzo production.

Daily flights connect Mytilene with Athens and Thessaloniki, and ferries connect the island with Athens, Thessaloniki, Kavala, Alexandroupolis, the island of Limnos and the Dodecanese islands.
